2. The Bucerias Street Food & Art Walk
Alright, so if you’re a person who likes to explore with your taste buds, this one is pretty much for you. A street food and art walk, in a way, is the perfect way to get to know the heart of Bucerias. This guided trip, instead of just showing you buildings, introduces you to the people and flavors of the town. Obviously, it’s best to go with an appetite. The walk typically starts in the late afternoon as things are cooling down a bit. The person showing you around, you know, usually has deep roots here and tells stories that you just wouldn’t get from a book. They actually bring the town’s history to life.

3. Humpback Whale Watching Safari (Seasonal)
So, if your visit happens to be between December and March, you are really in for a treat. This is when the humpback whales come to Banderas Bay to breed and give birth, and a whale watching safari is, basically, an unforgettable experience. Now, it’s not just about seeing whales from a distance. These trips get you out on the water in a smaller boat, often with a marine biologist as your guide, which is a pretty great bonus. You actually learn a lot about these massive creatures. You get to hear them “sing” through a hydrophone that the guide lowers into the water, which is just an absolutely haunting and beautiful sound.
Well, seeing a forty-ton whale breach, or leap, completely out of the water is a sight that will honestly stay with you forever. It feels so powerful and so wild. The guides are extremely respectful of the animals, of course, and they follow strict guidelines to make sure the whales are not disturbed. It’s an adventure that feels both thrilling and responsible. Meanwhile, you’re also likely to spot dolphins, rays, and sea turtles on your trip out. So, you’re basically getting a full marine safari. This experience, in my opinion, is just a little bit magical.

4. Sayulita & San Pancho Discovery Trip
Okay, so Bucerias is wonderful, but sometimes you just want to see what’s down the road, you know? A day trip to the nearby towns of Sayulita and San Pancho is the perfect answer. Sayulita, a ‘Pueblo Mágico’ or magical town, is famous for its surf culture and incredibly colorful streets. You could literally spend hours just wandering around, looking at the street art and browsing the unique little shops. This kind of trip usually provides transportation, so you don’t have to worry about driving or navigating the local buses. It’s a very relaxing way to explore, actually.
As I was saying, the vibe in Sayulita is just different—it’s very laid-back and a little bit bohemian. You can watch the surfers at the main beach or even take a quick lesson if you feel like it. Then, the guided trip usually takes you over to San Pancho (officially San Francisco), which is just a few minutes away. San Pancho is, frankly, a bit quieter and has a more artistic, community-focused feel. It’s a really nice contrast. You can walk its peaceful streets, visit the community center, and enjoy a really relaxed meal at a beachside cafe. 5. Sierra Madre Jungle ATV Adventure
Alright, so if sitting still isn’t your thing, then an ATV adventure up into the Sierra Madre mountains is definitely the way to go. This experience is for the person who wants a bit of a thrill. Basically, you get your own all-terrain vehicle and follow a guide up dusty trails and through shallow rivers. It’s an incredibly fun way to see a side of Mexico that you just can’t get to from the beach. You can feel the air get cooler as you go up in elevation, and the views looking back down at the bay are just awesome. In fact, it’s a completely different world up there in the jungle.
Now, you don’t have to be an expert to do this. The guides, as a matter of fact, give you a good safety briefing and you do a little practice run before you head out.
