Walking closer, you really start to see the details, which is just incredible. The guide pointed out the intricate marble screens and the flowers made from inlaid semi-precious stones. It’s kind of hard to believe that people carved all of this by hand centuries ago. He had so many interesting little stories, for instance, about the optical tricks in the design that make it look the way it does from far away. Going inside the main mausoleum is a slightly different experience. It’s a little dark and quite crowded, and you can’t take photos, obviously. You walk around the tombs of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz, and there is a kind of quiet, respectful feeling in the air. It has a pretty rich history, and frankly, a very strong connection to the Taj Mahal story.

We walked through palaces, audience halls, and beautiful courtyards inside the fort. The guide pointed out the specific spot where Shah Jahan was kept under house arrest by his own son for the last years of his life. From this part of the fort, you get this incredibly sad but beautiful view of the Taj Mahal in the distance across the river. You can almost feel the history there. It adds another layer to the story, you know? After exploring the fort, it was time for lunch. The tour included a meal at a local hotel restaurant that was clearly set up for tourists. The food was, basically, a buffet of Indian dishes, which were quite good. There were plenty of options, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. It was just a nice, air-conditioned break to sit down, eat, and sort of recharge before heading back to the train station.

This organized day out is more or less perfect for people who are in Delhi for a short time and want a really stress-free way to see Agra’s main sights. At the end of the day, everything is sorted for you.

• The Good: It is incredibly efficient. You get fast train tickets, a private car in Agra, a knowledgeable guide, and entrance fees all covered. It’s pretty much the easiest way to do it.
• The Not-So-Good: You are, you know, on a set schedule. There isn’t a lot of time for just wandering around on your own or checking out other local spots.
• My Advice: If you value ease and efficiency, this is absolutely the way to go. If you are the kind of traveler who likes more independence, you might find it a little restrictive.
